There was so much hype about this book being "soooo good" that I think I expected too much out of it, and then was just a little disappointed after finishing it. Don't get me wrong, it was a good read, I just thought there should have been more to it. I was a little surprised at the "one chapter" near the end, it was a little unbelievable. I did like the way Sebold describes "in my heaven" and makes me think of those close to me who are in "their heaven" and hope that they are looking down on me like Susie did with her family.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, but must echo a lot of comments that the ending left something to be desired – and no so much the ending as much as one single chapter (the only one that, in my mind, was unbelievable). I could not put this book down and I have never read anything like this. It was very, very sad and very poignant; I very seldom literally cry while reading a book and I did with this one. I loved everything about the book – the concept of “your” heaven and the ability of those that die to see those left on earth, especially. You should read this book.

When I first heard of this book from a television review I knew I had to read it. I ordered it before it was released! If I could only put down on paper the way Alice Sebold does - what a fantasy. It has been so many years since I have read a book that I could not put down. Perhaps as far back as the first time I read To Kill a Mockingbird. Do not hesitate to read this one. Shocking, sad, funny all emotions are covered in this wonderful book. Please, please, please write more Ms. Sebold.
