The Lovely Bones is a heart-breaking story about a young girl who was brutally murdered at a young age. The story is written from her view up in heaven. The novel is full of suspense. It shows how death can tear apart a family. It also shows how a family learns to deal with the death of a loved one. The beginning of the story is a tragedy, but the ending of the story is beautiful. It is a novel that you will never want to put down until you finish. I was shocked when I realized that the same thing could happen to me or someone that I know. The Lovely Bones is a one-of-a-kind book.

I found this book deeply touching. Being a young teen myself, I found the plot sometimes hard to handle thinking that this could so easily happen to me. The idea that there is life after death was reassuring to hear. I look foreward to another great novel.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold takes readers to the hereafter.
One of the current topics of discussion around town seems to be what life is like after you die. Of course, there is no life, once you die that's it. Or is it? According to Ms. Sebold it isn't.
Raped, murdered and buried in a sink hole, Susie finds herself in heaven yet able to reach out to her family. Her touch is felt by those she loved and by one high school friend who just happened to be there when Susie went to heaven. The Lovely Bones is the story of how Susie's death affects those who knew her, especially her family.
There are some surprises, however for the most part this book is just what one would expect. The ending is good, but I like the characters the best. If you are looking for a short read that will suck you in, here it is.

I found the subject of the book to be intriguing, girls dies, looks down from heaven, comments on life, but I felt disconnected from it. I thought so much more could have been done with the still living folks in the story. I know it is narrated by the girl in heaven but it was difficult for me to identify with her, maybe I was trying to hard?! I don't know but it was a disappointing read for me.

This novel is amazing. I cried, laughed, and was horriffied all a once. The story took me into a whirlwind of emotions! She is a exceptional writer, and I look forward to read another one of her works!

I loved this novel on so many levels. I am prompted to write, after reading the posting from S.L.B. After reading this book, I was wondering what people who believe in the Christian heaven would think. She or he, did not surprise me in their response.
This book could appeal to spirituality of anyones beliefs-not the strict dictates of organized religion. It always amazes me that people who believe in the bible, cannot spell. How could they possibly read that incredible tome (the bible) and understand it? Perhaps the church can dumb it down - or some go to bible study.
The Lovely Bones heaven, is a heaven that I would like to imagine is real.

By far, the best book I have ever read! Sebold captures the stolen essence of a youth's innocence and vividly depicts a family in turmoil. I have yet to read another book which brings out my emotions all at once. Sebold's powerful voice reaches out to the reader, and grabs you by your heart. I would recommend to anyone to read Lucky, also written by Sebold because several parallels can be drawn between both books which make her writing even more impressive than before. I can't wait to see what else she will write!
