Dangerous, Dirty, Violent, and Young: A Fugitive Family in the Revolutionary Underground
by Zayd Ayers Dohrn
A Exciting Look into Being on the Run (4/2/2026)
This book was an intriguing read. The author goes into great detail describing his early childhood on the run from the law as his mother was seen as an outlaw, a terrorist as she was resisting the "American " lifestyle and instead fighting for a life of equality in a country so divided. This is a great lesson for anyone unaware of this country's views in the 60s, 70s and 80s and just how archaic things were. The author does an amazing job of bringing this story to life and you can tell he has really done his research into his parents' history.
The Family Man: Blood and Betrayal in the House of Murdaugh
by James Lasdun
Such an intriguing plot (4/2/2026)
I loved having the opportunity to read and review this book. It was wonderfully written and moved along nicely. To see a man transform from a loving husband to a monster was exciting but scary to read. When something so normal and mundane turns scary, flipping a family's reality upside down. This book was a great read and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a true crime lover.

When We Were Brilliant
by Lynn Cullen
A Complicated Friendship (11/3/2025)
Two women form a complicated friendship that no one sees coming. When Norma Jean Baker (a.k.a Marilyn Monroe), and Eve Arnold meet one night, both of their lives take an unexpected turn.
Lynn Cullen's take on this dynamic duo proves that she did her research. Through her research she was able to form not just the story, but likable characters who help make the story what it is. The viewpoint she gives the readers of one the most controversial women in history, sheds light on a side of Monroe I never really knew existed.
I loved this book and I really hope there is an audiobook coming out so that I can read it again along with the audio to really make the story come to life.
I would 100 recommend this book to anyone, whether you are a historical fiction person or not.
When They Burned the Butterfly
by Wen-yi Lee
A Powerful Story (10/1/2025)
Adeline is leading what appears to be a normal life in a world where she doesn't fit in. When Adeline's mom is killed in a fire, she doesn't know where to turn for acceptance. Soon she discovers a gang of powerful women who all possess the same ability as her, conjuring fire with their fingers. As Adeline gets in deeper with the gang, she realizes her mother was leading a double life she had no idea about as Madame of the Butterfly gang. Adeline starts to realize who is and where she fits into this new world she has found with the Butterflies.
This book started off a little slow but by the end I couldn't get enough. I enjoyed learning about Adeline's culture and seeing her come to understand who she was meant to be.
