The quandary of moral decisions
This novel looks at moral decisions one makes in pursuing a career. While seemingly a "funny" story by title, it's really a sad one. Caroline Neumann is 34 and at a crossroads of sorts. Her screen writing career seemed stalker and her husband is pushing for a baby. Caroline doesn't feel she's mom material so continues to ruminate about a possible series. She comes across some notes made by her husband, a psychologist, about a patient called the teacher. These capture her imagination and she uses it to pitch a series. Intrigued by the patient, Caroline manages to make a bad situation worse by befriending the teacher. Complications arise, of course, and one very bad decision for professional validation may cost her the most meaningful part of her life. The characters are well written and believable. The Hollywood stuff though seemed stiff and contrived.

The writing is very good and I enjoyed Caroline when she was being honest with herself.
I'd like to thank NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for allowing me to read this ARC.
