I really enjoyed this book and I think that all kinds in high school should have to opportunity to read it. I just thought that James was a very bright and smart kid. Must have been really hard for him growing up!!

I just finished reading this book for my english class (i'm a sophomore) It was definitely the best book we've read this year. It must have been so difficult for James growing up but he ended a great writer and musician. I don't know how he did it. If you like books that are true stories and interesting, then I suggest buying it, or checking it out at your library!!

The book was excellent. I understood the racial struggle but the humour of it kept it interesting.

it was a great book . being a immigrant i was able to relate to Rachel in her migrating part of her life . how she was always runing away and found more relaxed envoiroment in black community was really understanding to me . i liked the book because it was close to reality of most of the people in one or another time of their life
I just gone done reading the book "The Color Of Water" By James McBride, for my 9th grade English class, and am about to write a speech and do a project on it, and I just thought I would say how much I loved that book. It touched my heart, I think everyone should read this book. It was a tear-jerker at points, but I just loved it. Ruth was awesome, she got through all her difficulties in life while raising 12 children that all went to college. That shows that it really doesn't matter how much or little money you have. I like how she used her faith to raise her children and keep her family alive!
