I agree with everyone else about Ryan’s choice to hide things from his dad. I believe I would have handled things differently but it’s difficult to know. He did it out of love

This is normally not the kind of book I would pick up and read. But it kept my interest and I was curious how everything was going to come out. Someone else said it felt like a Hallmark movie - and I have to agree. I have very mixed feelings on this book - I would never recommend it to a book club, but if someone is looking for a light, uplifting book - this would one I would recommend.

RE: Overall, what do you think of The ...
I thought this book was ridiculous and didn't care for it. I read it for the purposes of reviewing, not because I enjoyed it. So much was unrealistic - even things such as Amy checking into a hotel room, not seemingly being concerned her dad disappears and she goes off horseback riding with a stranger. It seems like it may be geared towards a young adult audience. Writing was thin, characters were unrealistic and frankly annoying. I wouldn't recommend this book based on my personal tastes.

Reading this question made me understand even clearer what I did not care for about this book. It was written like an instant movie script , written with a specific cast already in mind. Lots of dialogue, lots of action and a crowd pleasing happy ending that wraps up all the loose ends.

RE: What surprised you the most about ...
That I didn't like it. Usually, I like magical realism. But this book fell flat for me. I didn't expect that.

RE: Have you ever lived anywhere with a ...
I owned a bed and breakfast for many years that is more than 175 years old. I had many experiences there, and had some folks working for me that are "sensitive" to the paranormal who told me things that were going on there. I seemed particularly sensitive to happenings when disruptions were going on in my life.

I was not aware until it was revealed. And then I was a bit disappointed. I would have liked to know there were supernatural aspects of the book before reading it. That being said, I still enjoyed the story.
