Tenderness: A Novel
by Rowan Beaird
Kept My Attention (7/1/2026)
I enjoyed the fact that the emphasis is on character development rather than action. But would have been enjoyed learning more about the inner workings of cults (like Synanon) and how they manipulate intelligent people to join and stay.
The Violin Maker's Secret
by Evie Woods
Refreshingly Creative Protagonist Who is a Violin! (3/5/2026)
I really enjoyed The Violin Maker's Secret because it mixes history, mystery, and emotion in a way that keeps the story interesting the whole time. I liked how the violin connects different people and moments in time, and how music becomes a way for the characters to deal with love, loss, and moving forward. The mystery about the violin’s past slowly unfolds, which made me want to keep reading to find out more. It’s a meaningful story, but it’s also easy to get pulled into because the characters and their experiences feel very real.
The Silent Period: A Novel
by Francesca Manfredi
Introspective Study on the Importance of Silence and Communication (11/25/2025)
Francesca Manfredi's The Silent Period is a quietly powerful meditation on silence, isolation, and the human need for connection. Through Cristina's gradual withdrawal from speech, gestures, and writing, the novel explores how stepping back from a noisy, hyper-connected world can be both liberating and unsettling. The prose is spare and hypnotic, perfectly reflecting Cristina's internal state, while the narrative's ambiguity invites reflection on the meaning of communication, presence, and selfhood.

While the story may feel slow or uneventful to some, its emotional resonance lingers long after the last page, especially in the final chapters where Cristina's silence reaches its full, transformative depth. The book is a deeply introspective, existential read — one that asks readers to consider the value of words, the weight of absence, and the quiet power of choosing not to speak.
