Stuffed: An Insider's Look at Who's (Really) Making America Fat
by Hank Cardello & Doug Garr
The World of Food (11/14/2008)
On the whole, I liked this book. The author let me see how cause and effect have impacted health and body size. It certainly opened my eyes to the world of food and the choices made. It isn't something I would have selected at first but the title intrigued me. I think it would be a good book club choice because the culprits listed would cause a lot of discussion.
Can't Remember What I Forgot: The Good News from the Front Lines of Memory Research
by Sue Halpern
Calming the fear (5/17/2008)
Alzheimer's is something most 'boomers' have a concern about. Author Sue Halpern has written a book about her odyssey of what makes a normal brain. She used herself as guinea pig. Her journey helps the reader to understand some of the complexities of the brain and the research going on in the field regarding memory loss and most particularly Alzheimer's Disease. This book is highly readable even with some of the technological jargon. I highly recommend it to all, especially all of us 'boomers'. I learned a lot. The title alone made me want to read this book.
The Pirate's Daughter
by Margaret Cezair-Thompson
Hooray for Cezair-Thompson (10/10/2007)
I can hardly wait to hear from Margaret Cezair-Thompson again. I was delighted to read a book in which I enjoyed the main characters. I did not always like what they did but I still liked them The supporting characters lent such a wonderful and sometimes frightening background. This is a book not only about mothers and daughters but parents and children. The choices made always bring unexpected results. This is a real page-turner. Enjoy!
