This book is absolutely wonderful. It is rich in themes, universal truths, metaphors, and a plethora of other literary devices. I would highly recomended this book to anyone who loves to read about history and enjoys a book that goes into the depths of human perspectives.

Luv barbra kingslover... my fav...


I thought that this was one of the best books that I have ever read. It was
assigned as "summer reading" piece to be discussed in my senior english class
come August. I do not generally like to read during the summer, in part
because I have a job, but mostly becasue I'm lazy and I don't feel that we should
have work to do during the summer. With this being said, however, I absolutely
loved this book. I was unable to put it down. I think that the reason that I actually
read it was because it was so moving. The story was very gripping, and the fact that it
was told from the point of view of all of the girls made it all the more interesting.
I would reccommend this book to everyone who would be willing to take the time
to read it.

This is book was simply...amazing. No doubt about it.

The characters are well drawn, the story is moving and utterly true. The philosophizing reaches to the heart of the Christian dilemma.

I feel as if I have taken a part of Africa home with me, and I have gained new respect for my family members and the separate journeys we have made, and the journeys have yet to make.

I am reading The Poisonwood Bible for the second time, and will again finish it in three days. I underlined so many breathtaking observations the first time through I had to give up and just admit the entire thing is worthy of my pen. This time I did research on the history of the Congo, which has added immeasurably to my appreciation of the story. If you are a serious reader and can appreciate irony and the hilarity of purposely mixed metaphors, don't pass this up. A gorgeous book, as well as a disturbing one.

I had to read this book for an AP Literature assignment. I found it to be very interesting - hard to put down. The plot grow thicker with every turn of the page and the many narrators keep the story from becoming one minded. I would definitely recomend it for any serious intellectual reader.

This book was highly recommended to me by my sixteen year old daughter after she read it for an AP Literature assignment. It is unbelievably mature and heartfelt. I couldn't put it down. I assume these other guys would have rather read "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones" to stimulate their minds.
