About this book

Book Summary

Evil spreads throughout the Kingdom, and the one woman who can save them may be the key to their survival ... or their destruction.

Anyi is the gem of the Countless Clans. Their Queens make lifeblood, a magical substance used for everything from medicine to weapons. Once, Anyi had so much lifeblood that they gave it away. Now their Queen is dying, none of her daughters, the Diviewe, can produce lifeblood and the gods that guide the clan have gone silent. In the Empire of Ka, Anyi native Aseye dreams of leaving her work at the imperial armory to strike out on her own. Kwame, a spy with a hidden heritage, is a charming distraction. A man of conflicting loyalties, he's not to be trusted with Aseye's heart – or her secret, buried so deep that even she doesn't remember it. A secret that could end her life. As Anyi's lifeblood dwindles, the Diviewe beg the Elders to unleash an ancient weapon to save the clan. The Elders refuse. The Diviewe take matters into their own hands. But the weapon is not what they thought it would be, and it's not the only thing to wake…

Media Reviews

"Ntumy populates her saga with an expansive cast while giving inner life to all her characters, servants and guards included. Her deep, thoughtful worldbuilding is especially impressive. Readers will enjoy getting lost within this vibrant world and eagerly await the next volume." —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

"If the spirit of rebellion, resistance, and remembrance was a story, it would be They Made Us Blood and Fury. Cheryl S. Ntumy writes with a fervor whose prose sweeps you along and comes at you from all sides, not giving you a chance to catch your breath. They Made Us Blood and Fury feels like crossing a threshold into something deeply personal and haunting." —Maurice Broaddus, author of Sweep of Stars

"They Made Us Blood and Fury is an absolutely epic fantasy novel for fans of Tobi Ogundiran and Tomi Adeyemi. As always, Cheryl S. Ntumy has spun a tale as heartfelt as it is gory, seamlessly weaving multiple points of view into a rich story of political intrigue, complicated romance, and even more complex religion as an old god wakes to wage a new war. Ntumy excels at intricate world-building and crafting morally gray characters with whom the reader cannot help but empathise, making for a book that delivers gut-wrenching action—with a touch of body-horror - as well as many tender moments. They Made Us Blood and Fury will leave you wanting more long after you turn the last page." —Xan van Rooyen, author of Silver Helix and My Name is Magic
