About this book

Book Summary

A daring art heist on the eve of Molly's wedding reveals long-buried secrets in this intriguing and heartwarming novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Maid and The Mystery Guest.

Molly Gray's life is about to change in ways she could never have imagined. As the esteemed Head Maid and Special Events Manager of the Regency Grand Hotel, two good things are just around the corner—a taping of the hit antiquities TV show Hidden Treasures and, even more exciting, her wedding to Juan Manuel.

When Molly brings in some old trinkets to be appraised on the show, one item is revealed to be a rare and coveted artifact worth millions. Molly becomes a rags-to-riches sensation, and a media frenzy swirls as she prepares to sell her priceless treasure. Then, on auction day, the treasure suddenly vanishes. and Molly and her friends find themselves at the center of the boldest art heist in recent memory.

But the key to this mystery lies in the past, in a long-forgotten diary written by Molly's Gran. For the first time ever, Molly learns about her grandmother's secrets: how she was born into a wealthy family and fell head-over-heels in love with a young man her parents deemed below her. As fate would have it, Gran's greatest love was someone Molly knows quite well.

A spirited heist caper and an epic love story, The Maid's Secret is a spell-binding whodunit that will capture your heart.

Media Reviews

"Wonderful ... The perfectly timed reveals in each story line complement each other, and Prose seamlessly integrates the tones of 1950s melodrama and zany contemporary caper. Energetic and full of heart, this proves that Prose's series deserves a long run." —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

"A glorious read ... Intrigue, heart, and humanity in spades." —Lucy Foley, New York Times bestselling author of The Midnight Feast

Cloggie Downunder

super sweet fitting ending
The Maid’s Secret is the third book in the Molly The Maid series by award-wining, best-selling Canadian editor and author, Nita Prose. A dual-timeline narrative describes the dramas of Molly Gray’s life in the present day, and reveals the untold story of her late grandmother, Flora’s youth.

The present-day narrative centres on the discovery, at a fine arts and collectibles event at the Regency Grand Hotel run by popular TV show hosts and appraisers, that the trinket Molly believed worthless, is appraised at five million dollars or more. Incredible luck for the struggling maid and her pastry chef fiancé, but do the advantages of wealth and fame outweigh the toll on their privacy?

Flora’s diary, held for Molly until the right moment by her “gran-dad”, Mr Preston, candidly reveals a rather irksome young woman whose wealthy parents had a very different set of priorities to those Molly knew her grandmother to possess, and describes the events that led to her working as a maid.

Each of the narratives features theft and threats, one has a gold-digger and a sting, the other, a murder, an engagement or two, and a birth-house stay. All are more drawn-out than necessary, making the reading a bit tedious, building up to a super-sweet ending. Molly’s initially-delightful quirkiness has sadly lost some of its charm, so the series is well ended here.
