It was really Greek to Me
I picked this book because I loved Between You and Me. Greek to Me was not as accessible, but I enjoyed it a lot. Knowing NOTHING about the Greek language (save a few common crossword clues), the language parts were a bit lost on me. However the travels, explanations of Greek myths, culture, history and Norris funny and readable prose was a treat. Made me want to visit. A great read.

Going Greek
When I was a given a chance to review Greek To Me, I was unfamiliar with the author, but as soon as I read the last page, I ordered Norris's first book, Between You and Me. What a treat it was to encounter an author who admires language as much as I do! Part travelogue, part memoir and entirely a tribute to the written and spoken word, Greek To Me allows the reader the pleasure of meeting a writer who breaks all stereotypes for proofreaders, linguists and copy editors. Norris's sense of adventure and contagious love of learning for learning's sake shines through every page. Greek To Me may not appeal to all readers, but I have no doubt that it will find a large and appreciative readership.

Greek To Me
Part travelogue, part memoir, part tutorial, this book is an homage to the Greek language, Greek mythology, and their impact on the author's life. The book held my interest, but did end somewhat abruptly.

Greek to Me
After reading Greek to Me, I am ready to reread The Iliad and the Odyssey, and a few classic Greek plays. I marvel how Mary Morris learned the Greek alphabet, learned to speak Greek, and apply the Greek root word to the English counterpart. Her love of Greek and Greece is so strong, I want to hop a plane and explore Greece.

Better You Than Me
I had a hard time reading/understanding this book. It just did not make sense. And as the title says -- It was all Greek to Me. Just did not like it. Sorry.

It's all About the Language
A different approach to learning about Greece, its history and its culture by seeing it through the Greek language. Mary Norris challenges the reader to recognize the importance of the Greek language to the world. She does so by sharing her personal journey to learn Greek herself and to visit the country and experience all it has to offer. Her writing style is educational, but humorous at the same time, as she shares her love of Greek and Greece. This book would certainly be appreciated by anyone interested in the history of the Greek language and specifically its influence on the English language. But, it is also a story of travel, learning and life experiences.
