by Nadine Gordimer
No time like the present (8/12/2015)
Gordimer provides the reader with a realistic picture of contemporary South Africa.
Mary Coin
by Marisa Silver
The Truth Behind the Photograph (7/23/2013)
This well-written novel teaches the reader the importance of looking behind the photograph, removing the layers to discover the truth. The iconic photo by Dorothea Lange is the heart of the novel. Mary Coin brings to mind The Dollmaker by Arnow and The Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck, as well as The Girl with the Pearl Earring. Highly recommended for book groups.
The Sisters Brothers: A Novel
by Patrick Dewitt
Sisters Brothers (12/10/2012)
This is not your traditional western. Yet it has many of the characteristics of the genre, e.g. language, dark vs light, romance of the west, etc. It also has a lot of laugh-outloud humour, a characteristic not usually associated with westerns. Highly recommended for fans of literary fiction.
Foreign Bodies: A Novel

Ozick is a brilliant writer & Foreign Bodies is a "must read" for book clubs.
