A Simple Murder
by Eleanor Kuhns
Murder or Murders?? (4/22/2012)
Ms. Kuhns spins her tale gradually as she reels in the reader. She combines a murder in a Shaker community with life in 1796. As a lover of mysteries and history this book appealed to me. I confess it about 50 pages to truly interest me but for the last 75 I could not put it down. It would make a good beach read this summer.
Little Black Dress: A Novel
by Susan McBride
A Little Magic (7/10/2011)
Each of us yearn for a little magic in our lives. Susan McBride brings us a story with a magic dress and family secrets to be discovered by the reader. This is a quick, fun, interesting read that I could not put down.
Radio Shangri-La: What I Learned in Bhutan, the Happiest Kingdom on Earth
by Lisa Napoli
National Happiness (2/15/2011)
Lisa Napoli, on her own quest to find contentment and satisfaction with her life, travels to Bhutan to aid the national radio station. Her observations and insights on this delightful small Himalayan kingdom make interesting reading. For me, it was a trip down memory lane to remember a wonderful vacation I had there some years ago. I recommend this for all arm chair travelers who wish to know more about other parts of the world or prospective visitors.
Juliet
by Anne Fortier
Juliet (7/12/2010)
Fortier hooked me from the first page. She combined mystery, adventure, and romance with history to make a tale that I would recommend to anyone but particularly to people interested in Italy, history, Shakespeare or even mystery lovers. My next trip will be to Siena.
Alice I Have Been
by Melanie Benjamin
Alice's Adventures (10/13/2009)
For those of us who grew up with the tale of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" this is a delightful read. Alice tells the story as an 80 year old woman looking back over her life. It is easy to imagine her as Lewis Carroll's Alice. I was uncomfortable with the relationship of Alice and Dodgson and that detracted from the book. Still worth a read!!
