Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter: A Novel
by Tom Franklin
Friendship and all of its consequences (9/21/2010)
The characters in this book are very real. A strange friendship develops between a black boy and a white boy and continues into their adult years with serious consequences. This book held my attention from beginning to end and is certainly well worth reading.
Learning to Lose: A Novel
by David Trueba
Learning the game (5/11/2010)
This book is very well written and the characters are very descriptive. Any one that enjoys soccer or wants to know about the soccer world would really enjoy this book. After reading this book, I appreciate the pressure athletes have put on them, both on and off the field.
Pearl of China: A Novel
by Anchee Min
Different cultures make good friends (2/18/2010)
You can be of a different culture and faith and still be good friends with someone as Pearl and Willow showed. Chinese culture is so different from American culture and it is hard to understand the differences but if you have a friend of either culture, each can understand the other.
The Secret of Everything
by Barbara O'Neal
The Secret of Everything (11/3/2009)
This book is very well written and keeps the reader wanting to read on but hating to see it end. The use of recipes at the end of each chapter is interesting and useful to "foodies". Would recommend to anyone who would like a good read.
Dragon House
by John Shors
Dragon House (7/7/2009)
This was a very well written book - characters were marvelous. It's a book you hate to see end and there is a very poignant message to be learned here.
A Girl Made of Dust
by Nathalie Abi-Ezzi
A Girl Made of Dust (5/4/2009)
This is a book about a war as seen in the eyes of a child. Children should not have to encounter such tragedies as those that Ruba and her family saw. Worthwhile reading but depressing.
