I have never read any of Paula Brackston's books before but now I will search out her other books.
I enjoyed this book very much, had a hard time putting it down and read it into the wee hours of the night. Her descriptions make it easy for the reader's mind to visualize what she is describing.
Tilda is a complicated character, so many fears and phobias. I liked that the story, showing their connection, went between the two women; Seren in the distant past and Tilda in today's world.
Paula Brackston brings the reader along for a wondrous journey. We forget that we didn't just sprout up in this world that there were people who came before and deposited their lives in us.

The author's description of historical events made me feel as if I had witnessed them. This story would appeal to Civil War and Slavery history buffs. It brought out historical events that I was not aware of and that made me think. I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend it. The main character, who was a house slave for a very wealthy family in Richmond, Virginia, was a determined person willing to put herself in extreme danger to change the lives of slaves and to change history.

I loved the characters from the first written word describing them until the ending where I sobbed.
Normally I am not an emotional person but the writing and vivid descriptions by this author and of this wonderful story brought me to my knees. Some of the aspects of the story seemed a little fanciful at first but I came to understand their contributions to the telling of the story. The dynamics of the characters and their families were complicated and sad. I highly recommend this book.

I was hooked from the beginning. Dr. Ruth Galloway's character is finely drawn and someone you can relate to and all the characters are believable and unique at the same time. Bringing the current time and the very distant past together was intriguing. The plot moves without a false step and you enjoy going along for the ride. A wonder read and I look forward to further adventures with Dr. Ruth Galloway.
