The Heart-Shaped Tin: Love, Loss, and Kitchen Objects
by Bee Wilson
The Heart Shaped-Tin (11/11/2025)
This book brought back memories of memories of my parents, brother and sister. I have a few things that are priceless to me: an army uniform that my dad wore home from Vietnam, Variety puzzles that Mom didn't get to do, blankets my sister crocheted. Although they were kitchen items I related to this book.

This story tells her story as well as others. At first I thought the book may be too sad for me. However, there are times it is sad it brings back good memories.

Wilson looks at the humble instruments—knives, forks, spoons, pots, stoves, measuring cups, and more—that have quietly shaped human culture and cuisine for centuries. She also wrote the book Consider the Fork. I bet I would enjoy that book as well. I didn't realize how many books have been written on this topic.Ill have to check this book out too.
When They Burned the Butterfly
by Wen-yi Lee
When They Burned The Butterfly (9/18/2025)
Adeline's world is turned upside down at the death of her mother. Who would want to kill her mother and why?

I usually don't read a lot of fantasy books but I enjoyed this book. This book takes place in Singapore, 1972 and that was interesting to me. The Butterflies are a close knit community. As the story evolves you meet characters of the factions of society.

There were two things about the book that caused me to feel like I might not finish the book though: there are many characters to keep track of. For this reason I found the story to be confusing and the story was slow in the middle.

This book deals with a lot of grief, loss and love. The author has a dense writing style that can give readers the feeling that are in the book.
The Bone Thief
by Vanessa Lillie
The Bone Thief (7/15/2025)
The Bone Thief by Vanessa Lillie is part mystery and part modern Native American Heritage. Part of the book set in Oklahoma and the rest in Rhode Island on the land of the Narragansett Native Americans in 2008. You will meet the main character Syd who is an archaeologist and she is tasked with finding out who is stealing bones from the dig sites. Not only is she dealing with this problem but she has demons of her own to solve. There are secrets and betrayal in this book.

This book is easy to read as well as drawing the reader into the mystery. There is tension between Syd, her campers, the tribe, and several adults. Who is the bone thief and why?

Vanessa Lillie tells a powerful story that mixes mystery, history, and identity. The main character, Syd, is a brave and smart woman who cares a lot about her Native American heritage. She's strong but also going through tough emotions. She wants to help her community, but she's also figuring out who she is.

This book is more than just a mystery. It talks about important ideas like family, justice, and belonging. If you like stories that keep you guessing but also make you think, The Bone Thief is a great choice. It helps readers understand Native American culture in a respectful way while keeping you on the edge of your seat.

I would recommend you to read this book.
