Dangerous, Dirty, Violent, and Young: A Fugitive Family in the Revolutionary Underground
by Zayd Ayers Dohrn
Engaging and Informative (5/3/2026)
I was immediately drawn into this book. The author does an amazing job of arranging a complex timeline in an easy to follow and engaging way. The addition of photos makes the read even more engaging. I appreciated the extensive citations at the end as well. I have learned so much about American revolutionaries in the 60-70s and found myself doing extra reading and research after reading. I also had engaging conversations with others about the topics in the book. As someone who struggles with an interest in history, that is a big deal. The book is not small, with well over 400 pages, and not once did I feel it to be too long or burdensome to read. I recommend this book and definitely consider it a 5 star read.
When They Burned the Butterfly
by Wen-yi Lee
Because writing (10/3/2025)
I enjoyed of reading When They Burned the Butterfly. I haven't read Wen-yi Lee before, and found myself stopping at multiple points to appreciate her writing. Sometimes it was a powerful line, other times a stunning description of the world around them. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy historical fiction and fantasy as well as a bit of romance. It's an intriguing read and I look forward to reading it again with the knowledge I have now to see if anything new stands out to me. The book is vast, and I think it would have been more enjoyable as a two book series as there is so much life and movement in the book to take in. Overall I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any other books by the author.
This Here Is Love: A Novel
by Princess Joy L. Perry
5 stars (8/17/2025)
I've struggled with how to summarize this book in few words. It's a book filled with heartbreak and suffering. Yet, at its core this is a story of love and of hope, which shines above all the rest. I found myself awed at the author's beautiful writing - the people, the emotion, the landscape and world building. While the people and stores are fiction, we know the heartbreak and injustices told in this book are seeded from a reality not so distant from today. It's a powerful story, one I would encourage everyone to read. Without a doubt a 5 star read.
A Land So Wide: A Novel
by Erin A. Craig
Entertaining and beautifully curated (6/21/2025)
A land so wide is my first introduction to Erin Craig. The imagery Erin paints of the world and woods is beautiful. The characters feel well thought out and the backstories weaved in, are done so in a beautiful fashion. I really enjoyed the main characters inner dialogue and moral struggles as well as strength. I thought the blend of romance, fantasy, folklore and mystery made for a very interesting read. In fact, I am not ashamed to admit I read most of the book in one fabulous weekend day. After reading, I realized I have another of Erin's books on my to be read bookshelf and am excited to dive in. Overall I would absolutely recommend for anyone interested in the genres above.
The Seven O'Clock Club
by Amelia Ireland
Best read of the year (6/14/2025)
This book was hands down my favorite read of 2024. I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC, which is an honor but doesn’t impact my rating. I found the characters all to be interesting and enjoyed learning more about each one. I was intrigued to learn more about the sessions and found the overall plot a delight. Truly my favorite book from 2024.
