But...I didn't love this book. First, I tried to read it as a series of vignettes about his pets, then as a series of glimpses into his life (in which pets played a part). Initially, I could hear his voice as I read along. Unfortunately, as my dismay with the book grew, the voice diminished.

I enjoy Liana Finck's New Yorker cartoons, but here, the illustrations were distracting.
I regret that this will be a DNF for me.

Sharing Lottie's invisibility cloak of a certain age but fortunately, not sharing her history, I am mercifully not haunted by the possibility of someone waiting to document a life-history best forgotten.

My junk drawer, filled with tools, has never looked so sinister...and the walk-in shower, so treacherous. And the murders...increasingly outrageous, somehow give rise to an inappropriate smile...but surely not laughter!

Initially a seemingly innocuous tale, the tension quickly rises as the bodies pile up and Lottie is forced into more devious methods to avoid detection.

How could a book about murders be so entertaining...and how could I be nodding in appreciation of this clever septuagenarian? I'm not sure, but I am heading to my library to find more by this clever author.

I am not quite finished with this book, partly because I am so in love with the writing and am luxuriating in the language. I often re-read particulary exquisite (or hilarious) sentences.I have been marking passages I love with post it tabs,and the book looks like a porcupine! I LOVE this book!

I admit that asked for this book based on the sapphic description. The relationships tiptoed up to the edge of menage a trois, and added a "will they, won't they?" element to the book.
Overall, this complex, sometimes convoluted novel kept me returning to previous pages to see what I'd missed. Multiple times I was sure that I'd identified the culprit, only to find, at the end, that I was wrong...or was I?

This was not an easy read, and I was reluctant to enter the hidden world of the human beings who support our insatiable desire for more "stuff," IMMEDIATELY. Like many of the systems that provide those of us who have some bit of privilege, I'd prefer not to know about the hidden side of the mega-stores, willfully ignoring the human beings on whose shoulders this privilege rests.
But they are US and deserve our acknowledgement and respect. I will never look at a carefully stacked sweaters in the same way.
