Although this book deals with the death of the author's daughter, it is ultimately the story of the power of love and family. After Amy Solomon's untimely and unexpected death, the author and his wife move in with her husband and three young children to help out. The story tells of the little, everyday things that make up life and how one must go on, even after tragedy strikes. It is a small story, but both heartfelt and heartwarming.

In this compelling novel, past and present collide for a woman dealing with her husband's affair. Morris presents real characters faced with believable problems, and the ending feels almost as inevitable as it is shocking.

Hey my name's Sophia I'm 13 and I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I finished this book really quickly because once I got past the first chapter or so i couldn't put it down! I liked the character Harper because I thought she was very down to earth. I thought it was really suspenseful and also really funny a lot of times. I think this would make good discussion for a bookclub because people can discuss what was going on with Harper and her family life and all that stuff that this book focused on. the only thing I was disappointed with was that I didn't like how it ended but I won't say why because I don't want to be a spoiler!! :) all in all great book!!!
Resistance

Thoughtful and provocative (2/26/2008)
This beautifully written story focuses on a town of women deserted by the men in their lives who have joined the British Resistance during WWII. The women's fragile relationship with the occupying Germans, and their growing mutual dependency is both sensitive and thoughtfully developed. The language is wonderful, the story flows smoothly, and the characters are real.
The Pirate's Daughter

I was disappointed in the book. While I thought it started out strong, with a vivid picture of Jamaica, and strong characters, I ultimately found the characters unconvincing and the dialogue weak.
