The energy of the novel is chaotic especially when you are getting Bowman's perspective and story. It is the feeling of falling in your sleep gasping to awake from a fevered dream. This is before you realize there is a family secret that is going to rip things apart. Summer is the one holding things together by a thread before things begin to go south on the family compound security measures start caving in with the arrival of Sam. The author did a great job building a picture of our two main characters and leaving the others in the shadows until needed to push the story forward. Just for fun we even get a drug cartel with their own issues raining on the parade of disasters.

I have mixed feelings on this novel. The subject matter is one I am always drawn to, set in Greece it covers WWII and the aftermath of the civil war in that country. This is a microcosm of WWII but more about the unrest that followed in the aftermath when so many men were killed and the country was ravaged leaving those remaining to make hard and at times poor choices. Weaved through the story is the culture of the last lament and Greek History.

There are so many great lines in this book that put you in the shoes and the emotions of the characters. What is even more stunning is how it accomplished over the course of one day.
This novel would make a great book club selection. It encompasses so many layers of loss.

Helen Rappaport paints an illuminating picture of the Russian revolution. I found the book well researched and very detailed it makes the perfect book flight companion to Amor Towels Gentleman in Moscow.

I was pulled into the story within the first five pages. The characters feel real and you can just imagine a magical place called Nowhere. Loved the story and the characters especially Catch. This could make a fun book club read some really great paths for book clubs to venture and discuss.
