Is it Her or Me
Maybe it's me, but I am not taken by this book from Harriet Lane. The storyline was meandering, filled with scenes, vignettes and little action. To me, the story seemed to be all adjectives with no verbs. The plot conveyed some sparks of insight into the two primary characters and developed a bit of tension, which kept me reading to the end. Within this book, there was an appropriate review of itself--"I found the final plot twist unsatisfying" and again "I don't think I like these characters". Mercifully, the book is short.

I'm with HER.....
In HER, Lane delves into the enormity of how one time, one summer, one event in a person's life can continue to affect them for years to come. It was a fascinating look into family dynamics, mundane daily life, and misplaced blame. I was captivated by the characters.

What happened next?
As someone who at times will go to the back of the book and read the ending because I can't wait (really), I usually don't care for books that leave me hanging in the end, and this one does it big time....but I did enjoy reading it except for that and I think it would be a good book for book clubs to discuss...Nina was creepy and I kept hoping Emma would wise up before something bad happened...did it or didn't it?

Her
Two women, Emma and Nina with nothing in common, or is there? Initially I had difficulty getting into the book, but once started I was anxious to see where it was going. Tension built as the characters and story were developed. The story was rather creepy but quite enjoyable.

Her by Harriet Lane
"Her" is a chilling tale of obsession and the evil that it engenders. The story is told from the point of view of two women, Emma, an unfulfilled suburban stay-at-home mother, and Nina, a well known artist. An uneasy relationship is forged between the two and the horror mounts slowly until, at last, tragedy strikes. Or does it? The reader has to decide for herself

Her
I read "Her" in one sitting. This is an exquisite short novel. The author develops the two main characters bit by bit until readers feel they know them well. Not so fast! Doubts build gradually. The frazzled Emma is the older mother of two small children who is barely coping with the demands of keeping house and raising children without help from her husband. Nina is a serene artist. She is the mother of a teenager who is facing the prospect of an empty nest. In alternating chapters, Nina and Emma give their versions of a number of events in their friendship. Nina makes it clear that their paths have crossed but Emma has no inkling that they have ever known one another. I found "Her" very we'll written. It's fascinating and disturbing
