As I read this book, I realize that the word "sisters" wasn't reserved for Dana and Viv. It extended to sisterhoods between all the women in the story. There was a sister relationship between Anna and Monica. The girls from the church had a sisterhood. The witches in Bayern County had their sisterhood in the coven. The curse for all of these women wasn't the same. Whether the curse came from having a serial killer as a father, the local legends, the poisoned water, or the Kings of Warsaw, the sisters stood together. I found myself wrapped up in all their stories.

This book is everything I want in a book! It has a strong female lead/main character with a dark past that she works feverishly to overcome, while she deftly manages to preserve and maintain a solid future in a stable relationship.

It has a great storyline full of folklore and supernatural forces. The main character's flash backs are woven into the story in a thoughtful, carefully scripted way. The story flows as gently as a River when it needs to, with the added rapids and directional changes and diversions of a raging River, at times.

This book dabbles on the occult, witches, curses and crystals in a very convincing manner. Plenty of interesting and suspenseful encounters with creatures of the deep and things that go bump in the night!

I love the way the author describes the elements of nature and shows the reader the adverse effects the mismanagement of chemical waste can have on animals and reptiles. The reader instantly learns to have a tender heart for snakes!

Twenty-five years ago, on the Fourth of July, a girl disappears. Two local rich boys are suspected of her murder, but without a body, the case goes nowhere. Now, each of them has a son who is nearly drowned under very mysterious circumstances. One of them has a skull deposited in his mailbox.

The lead investigator, Lt. Koray, is the daughter of a serial killer who claimed the magical powers of the forest. She, also, experiences the sense of some sort of spirit power – in the forest, in the water, even in animals. She, herself, feels both attacked by that power when she tries to stop its revenge and later inhabited by it when she sees its justice.
So, is there really some sort of forest/river spirit avenging angel or is she imagining this due to trauma she experienced as a child?

Whatever is ultimately true, this is a story of several powerful men abusing primarily women, but also the overall community, who, while they get away with it for years, are finally called to account.

It's a very satisfying tale in the end and one I highly recommend.

I was so excited to get an ARC of this book by Nicola Solvinic and to find out that it was the second installment where we follow our MC, Lt. Anna Koray. I read The Hunter's Daughter earlier this year after hearing several people rave about it. I loved The Hunter's Daughter - top notch police procedural! So, diving back into Anna's world and tagging along with her on her next case was very exciting!

The Sister's Curse follows Anna as she investigates the cold case of a missing girl in Bayern County and the ties that some local 'kings' of the county might have to the case. That is really skimming the surface, but it is much more satisfying to take the time to let the story unravel as you read it. I love Solvinic's writing and the way she crafts her stories. She does an excellent job of weaving magical realism, folk tales, beautiful nature writing, and gritty suspense all together into a propulsive novel. In this book, we learn about a water spirit, but that is all I will say! I loved this book, and am eagerly awaiting the next book that Solvinic writes!

This story about a girl who went missing years ago involves present day murders, crooked cops, a bit of witchcraft and some members of a really messed up church that's mostly a cult. It grabbed me and kept me until things came to a head. It's well written, good character development and an interesting tale. If any criticism, it may have dragged a bit at the end but still a very good read.

The air of mystery of past and current events evokes an unsettling atmosphere, it keeps you reading but I wanted to yell at the main character "Please leave, it is too dangerous!." The power of belief whether in good or evil shaped the town, people, and events. I look forward to other books by the author.

Consider a police officer, Lt. Anna Koray, whose father was an infamous serial killer and whose mother forfeited parental rights as soon as the father was out of the picture. As fate would have it, both parents had just enough time with Anna to become deep and lasting influences on their daughter for better and worse. In spite or because of, she devoted her life to being a police officer. The Sister's Curse is a well written novel with enough variety of both plot and characters to keep the reader engaged and offer subjects for further reading. (I finished the book in about 10 hours).

A perfect weekend read. After finishing the Sister's Curse, I discovered it was actually book 2 of the saga. Book 1 (The Hunter's Daughter) provides enough backstory to give more depth to the Sister's Curse, although each book stands on its own. I can't wait to check out the backstory so I'll read it next.

This book is a crime mystery with an underlying paranormal element. It tells the story of Anna who is the daughter of a serial killer. She works to slove a cold case that is crippling a small town. Her determination to get to the bottom of a years old murder are admirable. With professed witches and the presence of the dreaded Rusalka, the story takes on some paranormal elements that keep the reader guessing. I did find a few slow spots in the story but overall this was entertaining.
