I really enjoyed this read. It was easy yet entertaining and complex enough to hold my interest. There was an interesting mix of dedication to a person who was "family" yet not related, coupled with romance from the helpers along the way and topped off with the evil of the Warlock's power. Combined energies defeat the warlock and the ending feels good. Very enjoyable.

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review. This book picks up 5 years after the end of the previous book, "The Witch's Daughter." I didn't know that this book was a sequel until I started reading it so I hadn't read the first book ahead of time. While I didn't find that this hindered me in any way, I think that some of the back story items discussed in this book would have made more sense to me if I had read the first book before hand. I still greatly enjoyed this book though.

From what I was able to gather, Gideon was defeated at the end of the first book and banished to a prison in some kind of witch heaven. In the beginning of this book, Gideon escapes his prison and returns to Earth. Elizabeth follows him, thinking that the first thing he'll do is go after her young student Tegan not only for Tegan's part in Gideon's incarceration but also as a means of getting revenge on Elizabeth. While she is correct on Gideon's direction, she has no idea that his plans for Tegan involve something far worse than merely revenge. After Gideon manages to capture Tegan, Elizabeth follows them through time to try and retrieve Tegan back from Gideon's dark forces.
Overall I really enjoyed this book! I have to be honest I was surprised that I enjoyed it so much since the last book I read by Brackston (The Midnight Witch) I did not really enjoy so much because it was very confusing for me. This book was much easier to follow with the story line and it was a great story/plot. I do wish that I had read the previous book to have a better understanding of some of the back story but it was easy enough to figure out the gist of what had happened for the most part. And this book was just so interesting, it was one adventure after another. We learn about Tegan's journey through the world in search of learning different types of magic and each stop ends up being more fantastical than the last. I would definitely recommend this book, it was an interesting and adventurous read and I very much enjoyed it!

As a reader of this genre, I found this book to certainly be fairly on par with others I have read. I have not read the first book and did feel at times that it would have helped to understand some of the characters better. I might have gone with an average rating, but my teenage daughter read it and really liked it! Overall, probably a book for fantasy fans.

I started this series not really being a fan of the genre. Still not a big fan but I love this series. Brackston has a way of telling a story that really pulls you in and makes you want to stay until the very end. I recommend starting from the beginning (and not just because I'm OCD about it) because there are references that you'll understand better. I think even if you're not a big supernatural fiction reader you would still enjoy this series.

Brackston's spellbinding language is the driving force along with endearing characters and a well balanced narrative with the perfect amounts of witchcraft, mystery, suspense and thrills, even a little romance appears. Her characters are strong, intelligent and sensible. The foursome possesses a chemistry thus pulling the reader in further. The 'Time Stepping' and sub-plots enhance as opposed to distract. I enjoy the pacing, the motives are revealed slowly as your bond with characters deepens. Brackston provides a more than satisfying ending, never leaving her audience high and dry with abruptness. Fantastic story allowing mere mortals to enter the world of immortals via classy and charismatic necromancers.

In this sequel to The Witch's Daughter, The Return of the Witch brings us back to England and to Willow Cottage where Elizabeth and Tegan must again battle against Gideon in an effort to keep him from destroying their lives in order to gain all of the powers possible in his effort to become the greatest witch.

Paula Brackston has again given us a wonderful book full of everything a person loves about a good story, such as adventure, excitement, heartbreak, love and triumph in the face of adversity. Her characters are fully developed and the narrative is, as usual with her writing, exciting and fast paced. The time travel is an added bonus to the story and gives a brilliant twist to the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to another one of Brackston's witch stories.

I would encourage readers to read the first book before reading this one. There are a number of references and inferences to the first book, and had wished that's I had read it.

Readers who enjoy historical fiction, time traveling, romance, and fantasy will enjoy this book.

Although readers know the outcome, It's the journey that everyone captivate readers.

I'm looking forward to the next book.

This was an interesting story. I took the time to read the preceding book, "The Witch's Daughter" and felt this was worthwhile. It gave an understanding to the background in many situations. "The Return of the Witch" could stand by itself but is much better if the first book has been read.

The book is well written and keeps the reader's interest. It does get a bit tiresome with the same plot lines used repeatedly. The characters are well developed, especially if you have read the previous book.

This is a good fantasy with almost believable "witches." It also shows a variety of historical settings and how people who were believed to be witches were treated. Overall a good read.
