Don't we all want to be the only one?
Elikem married me in absentia; he did not come to our wedding"
Why did he marry you in that way? Where is he? How did you agree to all this? And many more questions that raced into my head. Afi Aloko is a Ghanaian seamstress from Ho that moves to Accra after getting married to Elikem Ganyo.
This is not your mundane rags-to-riches story.
I loved Evelyn, she was expressive and living her best life in a city that thrived on sociel norms. Afi was ultra determined to not let her mother and the Ganyo family down. Each move she made centered around martial longevity. The couple grew fond of each other and never seemed more happier. Yet, Afi found out that her husband's heart was not hers alone, her heart is not the only thing that shatters.
Her conversational tone may be the reason for it to be a page-turner. Alas, you keep on wondering if Afi will ever be truly happy with Eli.
One of the prevailing themes of this book is marriage. Peace Adzo Medie
portrayed it as a status symbol which I disagree with. Marriage should not be a gateway to wealth but rather the soil that nourishes the seed of love.
I would recommend this book for anyone who is dealing with infidelity, is married, or would like to know the former.
