Chose to read this for a book report in English and was interested by the cover. I get past the part where he hitchhiked to the Alaskan frontier and I get a lengthy set of hobo stories going into deep analysis of people I don't want to read about. Goes into minute detail of Chris's endeavors in Alaska which could be summed up into a couple sentences. The writing style is also very difficult to follow and unorganized. I'm also reading Into Thin Air right now and it has the same boring and inconsistent writing style. Pretty disappointed because both of these works seem very interesting and they are not.

I "read" this book for my 10th grade English class, I HATE to read anyways. but this is seriously the worst book ever. I read the first few chapters and stopped because it was so bad. after the fact we found out he hitchhiked to Alaska with different people and sent post cards that was all that there was to the book. We had to write book reports and a whole bunch of quizzes about this book and I aced every one even though I didn't read it, LITERALLY NOTHING HAPPENS. DON'T READ THIS BOOK. YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR TIME.!

It's good his story got out but he needed to summarize it. I had to read a book based on a movie and I'll tell you what, I have a book report with a third of the ending guessed up into bland none exciting details. I think hobo stories belong as fire starting material

I was suppose to read this for English but really only read a couple of chapters. the beginning was alright but after that I just had to stop reading it. I was not interested in how this guy met lots of people and hitchhiked to Alaska to be away from the rest of the world, its just not interesting at all to. I wouldn't recomend it to anyone..

This was the worst book I have ever read in my years of reading. The author has a very inconsistent and weak writing style. Although he gives great insight into McCandless' life, he could have written it better. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

This book was pointless and taught me nothing, except not to smoke weed in a tent!!

I will need to be placed in an oxygen tent to regain my ability to breathe. The book did not take my breath away because of how well it was written or how well the plot line was constructed but rather by how poorly the two were designed. I wanted to eat the same plant that Chris apparently died from while reading the book so I would not have to finish the blasted thing!

This story of a young person rejecting the American society has been done time and time again and I am getting bored with this topic being handled in this manner. It is as if each generation needs their version of On the Road by Jack Keroac? Self proclaimed "intellectual vagabonds" are predictable to the point of boring.

The writer ignored the purpose of what adjectives can do for a sentence. The writer passed up wonderful opportunities to describe things/events with clean direct descriptions. The author is more out to prove his ability to sleuth around the United States gathering messages/dialogue etc. The book was disjointed and lacked basic structural flow.

This book was very confusing and unorganized. The author jumps around the plot line. In the beginning we find out McCandless died but he keeps retelling his story throughout the whole book.
