The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
by Rebecca Skloot
The ugly side of science (8/12/2025)
This book tells of an incredible scientific discovery and the way the woman who made it possible was brushed aside. The treatment of the woman's story is equally important as the scientific advancements that came as a result. The attention paid to her part in the story is one of the best things about this book.
The Inheritance of Loss
by Kiran Desai
The struggle to belong (8/12/2025)
Many topics are skillfully contrasted through the telling of the lives of those who come from opposite sides of the spectrum. Historical facts about the lasting effects of the previous generations are portrayed without sounding like a history lesson. You get a real sense of the consequences of a certain time in history and the long reaching effects they have in the present.
