Nehru was born in 1947 in Allahabad in North East India. He studied in Cambridge England and then became a lawyer serving in the Allahabad High Court. He joined the Indian Congress Committee in 1918 and was imprisoned by the British on a number of occasions. In 1929 he became the first prime minister of the Indian National Congress and later became Indias first prime minister following its independence from Britain in 1947. He died in 1964.
