Terry Pratchett, who announced some months ago that he was suffering from early onset Alzheimers, has donated 500,000 UK pounds to fund Alzheimer's research. Mr Pratchett said: "I think Alzheimer's tends to happen in the home, or in a home, and it involves a loved one and a carer and it's fairly quiet, whereas, and I say this with a certain amount of care, there's a kind of heroic glamour about the battle against cancer. With Alzheimer's it's a lot of skirmishing." Best known for his humorous fantasy novels, Mr Pratchett, 59, who was made an OBE in 1998, has sold more than 55 million books over his 25-year career. He disclosed that he is starting to feel the effects of his condition. "I've given up my licence because I didn't feel confident driving."
