The MacArthur Foundation have announced their annual "genius" awards with 25 recipients receiving grants of $800,000 each.
Among their number are the writer Kiese Laymon, awarded for "bearing witness to the myriad forms of violence that mark the Black experience in formally inventive fiction and nonfiction," and Robin Wall Kimmerer, plant ecologist, educator, and writer for "articulating an alternative vision of environmental stewardship informed by traditional ecological knowledge."
About eight others, awarded for their work in a wide variety of disciplines, have also published books.
