Jun 13 2007

Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe, author of Things Fall Apart (1958) and Anthills of the Savannah (1988), has won the Man Booker International Prize, which honors "a living author who has contributed significantly to world literature." Achebe, who was a diplomat for Biafra during its short existence, now teaches at Bard College.

Last week, another Nigerian novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, won the Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction for Half of a Yellow Sun, set in Nigeria during the time when Biafra declared independence.
