Borders and Walden Customers Raise Money For Kids

In the last two months of 2006 customers of Borders and Walden Bookstores (both part of Borders Group) raised $830,000 for First Book, a nonprofit organization that provides books to children from low-income families. $780,000 was raised by customers making contributions along with their purchases; Borders added an additional $50,000. The money has been converted into Borders and Walden gift cards which are being distributed to young readers via housing projects, youth centers etc.
