How would you describe The Weight of Blood to a friend?

Weight of Blood has been compared to Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl. In what ways do you think the comparison is or isn't apt? How would you describe this book to a friend, and is there another novel you'd compare it to?

I would describe it as a book dealing with a family relation and should family blood always stand above everything else?

I think it's similar to works by Gillian Flynn in that it's a compelling mystery and extremely well-written, but it's more literary in that the focus is more on the setting than Flynn's works. It's more of a cross between Gillian Flynn and perhaps Heather Gudenkauf.
