Ijeoma has grown up listening to and learning from traditional stories. How does this influence her Bible studies with her mother?

I think perhaps there was some confusion with Ijeoma concerning the folktales and the Bible. She experienced doubts about both.

I think that the stories, the folktales and the Bible all took on the same importance. As Ijeoma became older she questioned the stories and folktales and eventually the stories in the Bible. If the stories could have different endings, why not the Bible stories. In this way, she was able to make excuses for what her mother called her "abomination".
