RE: How do you feel about Eva's decision to manipulate Claire?

Eve felt she had reached the "end of her rope". Unless she completely changed her identity, she would be found. She did what she felt she had to do. Moral or not.

RE: How do you feel about Eva's decision to manipulate Claire?

At first, I thought how desperate Eva was to even think of such a plan. However, as the story develops, the reader realizes that Eva is guided through Liz through Danielle. The interlocking relationships multiply as the story progressed to my delight!

Eva didn't think she had another option once she heard about Claire's situation. But I wondered throughout the book whether Eva considered the potential consequences for Claire. She must have realized Claire could be in danger from Dex/Fish.

I could see Eva's manipulation of Claire coming throughout the story. It was isn't thing new to literature--almost expected. The author wants us to feel draw to her sad situation, then wham, illustrates an actual "true to life" reaction of self-preservation.

RE: How do you feel about Eva's decision to manipulate Claire?

Eva was a survivor and was doing what she had to do to save herself. Dex could have hurt Claire to try to get information about Eva, but it wouldn't have added to the story. It was more sinister the way it was written - fearing that he might go after Claire to get information - hovering on the outskirts.

RE: How do you feel about Eva's decision to manipulate Claire?

Well, I don't think the decision was all Eva's. She had the most vulnerable and likely candidate to be manipulated in Claire. I don't think either of them though "through" to the other side of their decision to change places. It made for a good story, but in real life dynamics I don't think this would be wise.

RE: How do you feel about Eva's decision to manipulate Claire?

Eva only thought about herself and how to get out of her situation. She didn't really think about Claire and if Claire would be safe pretending to be Eva. Then again, Claire being who she was had a sort of safety net if she wanted to come out and declare who she really was. It is almost the perfect person for Eva to manipulate.
