What obstacles did you find that Claire faces once she escapes from Rory? Were there any difficulties that surprised you?

I think that what surprised me most of all was that Rory and his team could figure out that Claire was still alive. It made the book very suspenseful in a way that was surprising.

The main obstacle for Claire was regaining her self-confidence and learning to trust again. She did use her inner resources though to start rebuilding her life in California as a single woman and once it was clear that Rory could no longer hurt her, she could think clearly enough to chart a path forward.

She was accustomed to being financially secure as Rory's wife. To suddenly start worrying about money was new and frightening to her. I was thinking of the quote "The best laid plans of mice and men oft go awry." Murphy's law - "If it can happen, it will."
