Her parents were good and caring people, who had little but gave everything for their kids’ education. They were happy though and I found myself thinking they were not unlike my family in many ways. Knowing what she wanted and working for her goals impressed me.

I was surprised when she honestly discussed her regret that she had become a lawyer. Her decision to take a different path was inspiring and she made some difficult choices. It’s not easy to walk away from expectations that others have for you. Her honesty throughout the book was very refreshing.

Nothing much surprised me about her but I was impressed by the fact that she really made this primarily a story of herself as a wife and mother. When she spoke of her alter ego--First Lady, she did it with pride, modesty and refrained, for the most part, from rancor, bitterness or anger toward opponents of her or her husband.

I was surprised when I got an insight into their personal life issues and problems like Marriage Counselling, Pregnancy... I feel many normal couples go through these vulnerable issues and they are very relatable
And I was impressed by the fact that she single-handedly took on the responsibility to raise their daughters when her husband was unavailable and working for a greater deed. This is the quality every woman should aspire to have and be confident about. Also, the balance between her personal and professional life is something I was really impressed with as well !!

May have said it earlier but I was surprised at how similar our growing up was, however our age difference. Very normal and happy childhood. Mother could hav e worked but stayed home with her children. They were well brought up and loved. Plus had little and gave all. Very impressive. Linda

I was surprised that she came from a bad neighborhood and that her parents did not have much money. I was impressed that her parents put their resources on their children and were such good parents. I was impressed with her honesty about her life. I was also impressed with her commitment to her family.

Such a grounded childhood, I had no idea about her parents. They gave up all for their children to make sure Michelle and Craig had what they needed to succeed under any circumstances. I knew she was a smart lady, but WOW to educational background and her career. I was also impressed with her fortitude to stay by Barack's side through good and bad. Impressed me, how she was able to cope with it all!

I really didn't know much about her background - and everything about her life is/was impressive to me. Especially her going from a high paying job to a non-profit says a lot about her belief in herself and her courage to take on something that was less lucrative. I don't think I could/would have done the same. She is one impressive lady. I was impressed also with her support of Barak's bid for the presidency with all the nastiness of politics - also courageous!

I was unaware of her upbringing in a middle class neighborhood which relates to my life. It surprised me when she admitted she disliked being a lawyer and I admired her courage to switch her "horizons" to working with the people. Her involvement with Public Allies impressed me. She utilized her inherent talents and expanded those assets with future projects, always with the idea of "uplifting" people to believe in themselves
