Finding Independence

Marcel Proust "gave her [Camille] independence." What was it about their relationship that made this possible. Could Camille have gained this independence in any other way? Who or what has enhanced your own feelings of independence?

RE: Finding Independence

Proust was a recluse but allowed Camille to be part of his private world giving her confidence that she was special. Perhaps Camille felt she was an individual, no longer limited to duties of homemaking. She and Proust had created an almost secret world between themselves. That gave her the feeling of being independent and separate from the ordinary. An occupation that is satisfying and unique can bring a sense of independence. Could she have found that independence another way? It would most likely need to take place outside the confines of her marriage.
