I absolutely agreed with Lee's decision to call Rab to the stand! She was right when she stated that he would lose respect for her if she didn't. And I believe that Rab did respect Lee from the moment he met her. She was honest with him, they shared martial arts training, and she empathized with him without giving him a pass on his actions. I also think she saw some genuine goodness in Rab that no one else did. In spite of all the horrible things he had done in his life, in spite of the fact that he seemed to lack a conscience, Rab SAVED Jeremy, offered him shelter and protection. Maybe he recognized that if someone would have done that for him, his own life would have turned out differently.
Yesterday I passed a double semi on a two lane highway. I could see the headlights of an oncoming car as I was halfway around. I knew I was taking a risk by what I felt in my heart and stomach. (Silly example, but it is at times like this I FEEL the most like a risk taker. ha ha) I don't think Lee felt that same exhilaration in debating whether to call Rab or not. She seemed to have a calm, practical approach--as if these kinds of decisions/risks (the kind affecting the lives of others) were made every day.
