Did the alternating perspectives of each character highlight any important similarities or differences about their experiences and how they move through the world? Did you come away with a better understanding of any one character in particular?

Allowing the different perspectives allowed us to be with different characters as they navigated the same events. I think Deepa was one of my favorite characters, I think her life will be difficult as she feels and reacts so quickly. telling the events at the border and with her friend Paco helped me to better understand her character.

It allowed us to get inside each character and see inside their differing points of view. I thought it was very effective.

I LOVE books with alternating perspectives. In "A Great Country" I felt the biggest advantage of that type of storytelling allowed us to see how Ashok & Priya differed in their thinking about Ajay's behavior and whether they should take him to a specialist. It also highlighted how Deepa is more socially conscious about things things like immigration rallies and Black Lives Matter protests than everyone else in her family, while Maya was more concerned with fitting in at her new school.

The alternating perspectives gave a much greater understanding of each character. Especially how Priya's thinking was more progressive and Ajay was a bit more traditional.

The alternating perspectives on Ajay were the story itself. I loved it and believe in a polarized society - books with alternative perspectives of the same event are hugely important to understand ourselves and reducing polarization.

The alternating perspectives were effective in providing a glimpse into each character's unique point of view. I agree with Angela and find alternative perspectives of the same event crucial in reducing polarization in our highly polarized society.
