What did you think about the friendships among the adult women?

What did you think about the friendships among the adult women? Which relationships feel genuine, and which are transactional? In what ways do these characters express affection or loyalty? How do you support a friend in a crisis? How has a friend supported you?

I loved the relationship between Priya and Archie. I think it was a very genuine representation of how people can come together, despite different upbringings, and form a strong friendship based on what they are currently going through. Archie and Priya grew up in completely different parts of India, but ended up together in California, united by their circumstances. They may not have ever had a relationship in India, but both express how they couldn't get by without one another as they navigated marriage, a new country, and raising children.

I think the nod to the blossoming relationship between the architect and Priya was also nice, but I suspect that it won't go anywhere now that the Shahs are moving back to Irvine.

I really loved Priya’s relationship with Archie. It’s similar to one I am blessed to have with a friend I know I can always count on. Aside from that all other relationships were transactional at best.

Wouldn't we all want a friend like Archie? So supportive of the Shah family. Priya knew she had a dear friend who was there for her.

Archie was a wonderful friend to Priya and the entire family. She was very supportive and generous bringing food to them. Also giving them love and support.

Archie, with her psychology degree, was a positive and nurturing friend to Priya. Their bond began in graduate school. Archie and her husband had been in the U.S. for a while and helped Priya and Ashok learn to navigate living in the U.S. Their friendship was deep. During the Shah’s crisis, Archie supplied them with food from her kitchen and from others, and she was a listening ear and source of calm during the entire crisis. Everyone needs a friend like Archie.

Priya and Archie's friendship was wonderful - giving freely to each other. I liked the architect, what little we had of her, and thought she and Priya could have become friends. The relationship with Miranda, on the other hand, was transitional - Priya wanted her to give the family a good reference in court. Ultimately, she couldn't make the ask.

I think Priya and Archie's friendship was genuine. Some of the other female relationships seemed more about trying to maintain appearances. I too liked the acknowledgement of the budding relationship between Priya and the architect. I think that given time they would have been friends. Priya had spent all of that time wondering what the neighbors were thinking. It's too bad she couldn't have reached out sooner. Then maybe living in Pacific Hills wouldn't have been so bad.

I agree with everyone who loves Archie. I love how she stepped in and took control over the everyday things that still need doing in a time of crisis. I loved when she told Priya not to worry about cooking anymore until further notice. As someone who loves cooking, I show my family love through my cooking, so this resonated with me. It's about more than just food. It's taking care of the ones you love in a simple, but beautiful way.

Priya and Archie were two friends that were more like family, siblings. They were able to support each other and take on each other's burdens when needed. It seems to me that such a close friendship is hard to come by and takes years in the making. Yet for the two of them it was absolutely necessary to find such a bond right away absent the support of family, and living in a country without a community and with racial bias. I so enjoyed the dynamic between the two! Everyone should be so lucky to have a bond like that.
