I found all of the stories really interesting, but some of my favorite were Katharine Burdekin's experience in 50's sci-fi films, which were secretly propaganda. I thought it was interesting that in that little, disrespected corner of movies a woman was able to make a career for herself as a director and producer.
I also liked the story about a person reading a science fiction story about a homeless man who believes he is an alien, who has been sent to earth to observe. With what he took from the story and a sermon he hears from a black muslim preacher, the reader, finds real hope in the idea that maybe all homeless people are higher beings. I can't help but have these thoughts now when I walk around my own city
I also really enjoyed that reader's ex-lover's experiences with the cult that ultimately expires in Jonestown. When she first meets the group she is so hopeful. It is a place where she can feel comfortable with her mixed race son. It is just a shame that the whole time I knew how badly it was going to end

I think I would have to say that the Herman Hess character was the most interesting though I did not like him much. He was so caught up in the cause and after the war pretty much got what he deserved. Living a life he wanted to end but being frustratingly foiled in that for many years.

I think you mean Rudolph Hess. Herman Hesse was a novelist. I agree. The Rudolph Hess character was very interesting and it was always interesting when the story came back to him. He did get what he deserved.
