No Female Judge in Afghan Court

While not directly related to the bach posh, this article in today's Washington Post is timely and provides another interesting look at how hard it continues to be for women to make any strides in Afghanistan. Forgive my computer illiteracy in not posting an actual link.

If Afghanistan wants to be taken seriously by the international community perhaps they NEED a few "tender hearted" women justices to counter the barbaric "lopping off of hands and feet" and other horrific judgements the male dominated courts support. You can bet that a woman judge won't condemn a raped woman to death by stoning for "inciting the base instincts of men"!

You make an interesting point. But does Afghanistan care about being taken seriously in the international community? I honestly don't know the answer but it doesn't seem that their government is interested in international opinion. That makes advances for women even more difficult; there seem to be no enticements or threats that can be offered to the government.
