Contribution to Civil War fiction?

Robin Lloyd's novel takes place during the American Civil War and thus could be placed in the "Civil War Novel" category. Yet I think he has added a new twist in that it is situated mostly outside the continental US. What exactly does this novel add to the Civil War canon?

Cuba was a facilitator of the blockade running. Cotton was currency for the south. A lot of the details about blockade running derived from stories told by contemporary blockade runners.

I think this book adds to the genre of Civil War fiction by basing a novel on the sea and in Cuba rather than the more familiar battle fields.

Definitely a new twist to Civil War fiction, a part of the story not well known by most readers! The fact that it is so well researched makes it vey easy to recommend to fans of that genre.

I agree with previous posts. This is definitely a good addition to Civil War fiction. It provides new insight into the blockade runners, Cuba’s dependence on slavery and the competing intelligence services during the war. The fact that the book was also inspired by real people and events makes it especially interesting.

This is definitely a contribution to the Civil War genre. It shows that the people of European ancestry who settled in Cuba had opinions about the war in this very new country (the U.S.A.), just over one century old, and as is often the case in war, personal monetary gain is often a motivator.
