I think everyone should give this book a try - even if it is not something you would ordinarily read, it is well worth your time.

RE: Thought-provoking.........

I agree, deby. The book raises issues that are still highly relevant today, such as the mistreatment of LGBTQ people everywhere, but perhaps especially in much of Africa, where just being LGBT could get one jailed or even killed by the State. Another issue that is raised is the misuse of the Bible to justify discrimination. Still another is the issue of civil wars and their effects on the ordinary people of warring country. Then, of course, there is the issue of tribal distinction/discrimination, that translates well to the current political scene with "demonization" of "the other." I could go on and on, but I'll stop here and hope that others will give the book a try.

RE: Thought-provoking.........

Yes, the book raises questions-those about war,the treatment of women, LGBT, etc. interesting I am reading a young adult book set in America, about a boy who is more comfortable as a girl. Her sister and mother support the feelings but the father does not. Does a person of the same birth gender feel threatened or are others like the men who set the fires. It is a question.
