It is obvious that Andre is different from Roy in many ways. Do you feel that ultimately he is a better match for Celestial? If so, why?

Yes because Celestial and Roy were too much alike in some ways. Both too self-centered and emotionally immature. Andre had been in love with her all his life and he seemed more mature, maybe because his dad left when he was small and he knew what loss felt like.

Yes, Andre is the better match for Celestial. He grew up with her and was familiar with her and her family dynamics. Andre was safe and reliable and Celestial thought she wanted what she saw in Roy. I don’t think she was really prepared for marriage with Roy from the beginning.

Andre and Celestial have more in common. I think she found Roy exciting and daring while Andre was familiar and, in her mind, a good friend. It wasn't until Roy was out of the picture that Celestial had to depend on Andre and realized how completely he was there for her. Also, Roy wasn't the same person when he came out of prison. They both needed a fresh start.

When Celestial met Roy he was something new to her - that is, his upbringing, his lifestyle. She was raised in a middle class home and though her parents came together through an affair, still they lived a stable, conservative, settled lifestyle. Roy represented a break from that and initially she found that intriguing and interesting - maybe challenging. In the end, it was not what she wanted or needed. Her youthful friendship with Andre, familiar and perhaps seemingly ordinary or boring, turned out to be the better match for her. Once she knew herself and accepted her own strength, she was better able to live alongside Andre as his partner and wife. No challenge was needed and Andre's steady and solid presence was right.

I agree with the comments above - Andre and Celestial came from similar backgrounds and knew each other very well. Roy was the "bad boy" and seemed exciting, Andre was safe. I also agree that before his arrest their marriage did not seem to be in a good place - Roy was just manipulative enough to make her stay even when she knew things were not working well. A regular break-up/divorce with Roy was going to be difficult and messy, he would not have just let her leave as she, and her family represented success to him.

When Celestial was helping a customer in her store just before Christmas, she saw a Roy-ghost across the street. "This looked like Roy would have looked if he had never left Eloe." She was never comfortable in Eloe and her relationship with Andre had always been comfortable. Although I felt Jones never really showed us the true love Celestial had for Andre, I felt he answered her needs and desires for her future. Actually, I wanted her to end up alone, but Jones had a happier ending.

The answer to the question is yes, Andre was ultimately a better match for Celestial. They grew up together and he always felt in love with her but Celestial was not into him. He was more mature than Roy. When married, Roy continued to flirt with other women. Andre was in a very much serious level when it came to a relationship. Both Andre and Celestial had so many things in common.
