One of Music of the Ghosts' most resonant themes is that of justice: what it entails, and what its limits are. What is your definition of justice? Is there a difference between justice and retribution, as the Old Musician suggests?

Who can say what "justice" is? It is different things to different people/groups based on their beliefs at the time. My "justice" for a wrong may differ greatly from another's view. Retribution can be a "pay back" or a way of evening the field for a wrong done. Is that always justice? Only those involved can say.

Retribution is getting even. Justice is making things right. Sometimes the two coincide.

I think of retribution as being something that should be paid as a way to punish somebody who has done wrong. Justice, on the other hand, is earned by the person or persons wronged. The Old Musician had certainly "paid" in all kinds of way, physically and emotionally.

Justice is many things. Depends upon the person receiving and the circumstance. Retribution is just "payback", which can be a form of justice, or perhaps a simpler form of justice, "an eye for an eye..etc...
The Old Musician, wanted retribution done to him, but also understood that his life since being freed, was a form of justice, as he could never let go of the guilt and failure of himself.
