Shannon Burke Biography

Shannon Burke grew up in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. After he graduated from college he decided to become a writer, but when he was was twenty-five he saw a woman shot in New Orleans. He had no idea what to do, and watched her die. He decided to become a paramedic, and moved to New York City where he worked with the New York City Fire Department on an ambulance for five years. In 2001 he left to once again focus on writing.

Burke is the author of the novels Safelight and Black Flies, a New York Times Notable Book. He has also worked on several film projects, including Syriana and the forthcoming film The Candy Store. Burke currently lives in now live in Knoxville, Tennessee with his two sons
