    I loved this book!
I fell in love with the book Ulysses S. Cat and Other Animals I Have Known by Scott Simon. Reading the stories of all of the animals, from a cricket to a turtle, and dogs and cats, reminded me of the stories I have gathered of our dogs from my childhood up to present time. When Scott Simon mentioned the way Daisy was acting when their oldest daughter went off to college, I automatically remembered my parents telling me when I left for college, our Schnauzer would lay at the top of the stairs for about a week waiting for me to come home so he could sleep in my room with me. After a week or so, our Schnauzer would come to the conclusion that I wasn't coming home for awhile and would sleep in my mom or dad's room until I came home again.

Our pets take a part of our heart with them when it's their time to leave, so I would say, please, please love your pets because the time they are with us is so short. They leave their paw prints on our hearts and we fondly remember their antics and stories. Reading these stories caused me to reflect on our past and current pets, and I gathered them close for some puppy hugs and sugars,

I highly recommend this book to everyone.

    I love this book
Here is a charming book perfect for teen age through old age. Short chapters that reflect a love of animals in a personal way. Highly recommended.

    a fun read
I really enjoyed reading Ulysses S. Cat book by Scott Simon. It was a lot of fun. He and his family really appreciate their pets, and they have a variety of them. There are also stories of other animals. The author has a great sense of humor. The short stories were varied in length. I particularly liked the stories about Gato, their cat, and Daisy, their French poodle. I would recommend this book to anyone who appreciates animals.

    The Cat's Meow
Ulysses S. Cat and Other Animals I Have Known by Scott Simon is the sweetest and most delightful book I've read in a long time. I alternated between hearty chuckles and flowing tears at the stories presented from the Simon family's pet encounters. You'll enjoy this book greatly if you like true stories told without filter--even the ones that don't turn out as you'd expect. Though I've had a variety of animals and have known both domestic and wild ones well, Scott Simon's tales still surprised and even amazed me. You'll find by reading this book that humans and animals aren't so very different after all.

    Heads Up Animal Lovers
Ulysses S. Cat is a very touching series of short narratives about some of the animals that Simon has encountered or thought about during his life. The animals are varied, common and yet unique, ranging from beta fish to sea gulls, dogs and cats, hamsters and octopuses. Daisy, the French poodle and Leona, the cat are family pets whose adventures and foibles are especially delightful. The stories are written in the same voice Simon uses on NPR, clear, engaging and wise. I have been a fan of his radio voice for years and am very happy to now enjoy his writing voice in this wonderful book. Animal lovers everywhere rejoice! This book is for you.

    Ulysses S. Cat
I loved this book. The writing is excellent, and the stories spoke to me. I laughed, I cried, and the lessons that were derived from these stories have universal appeal. Speaking about animals in the author's own life led me to think about animals in my life, and happy and sad times I have shared with them. I couldn't put the book down. It was a quick read, painted great pictures, and will be appealing to everyone, not just animal lovers.

    an animal lovers delight
I enjoyed this light hearted book of short stories about the many animals that have been in the authors life... as pets and otherwise (including the reason that their family no longer eats octopus!). Any of us that adore our pets, should get a kick and be able to relate to the many anecdotes shared in this book. Its a quick read that made me smile!
