I found the subject of the book to be intriguing, girls dies, looks down from heaven, comments on life, but I felt disconnected from it. I thought so much more could have been done with the still living folks in the story. I know it is narrated by the girl in heaven but it …more was difficult for me to identify with her, maybe I was trying to hard?! I don't know but it was a disappointing read for me. (less)

This book moved me in a big way. I have struggled with addictions all my life, not in the same way as Frey mind you, but have challenges with alcohol. I could really feel the depths of his despair, his emotional trauma and "the fury" he refers to. Reading the book opened my …more eyes to really how a strong desire and convinction, a decision that was made by Frey to be straight/sober is really at the root of addiction. It helped me to process through some of my own addictive behaviors. I commend James Frey for such a raw, honest and moving book. (less)
